Carve up that Halloween pumpkin and you may notice how soft and smooth your hands feel afterwards. That's because fresh pumpkin is loaded with vitamins, anitoxidants, minerals and enzymes that soften skin and exfoliate dead skin cells. There are B vitamins, betacarotene, and essential fatty acids that nourish and refresh tired skin. All skin types will benefit from the application of a fresh pumpkin facial.
After scraping out the seeds and the stringy stuff from inside the pumpkin, you can use the firm pumpkin fruit for your facial mask. In fact, the shapes you cut out for your jack-o-lantern eyes, nose and mouth will be enough for your mask. Just cut the fruit away from the outer rind and toss into a blender. Add sufficient water and blend to a creamy consistency. Add a little nutmeg and honey and you've got the perfect mask to nourish and revive tired skin. Apply a thin layer to freshly cleansed skin and leave on for 10 - 15 minutes. Press a warm, wet face cloth onto face and then splash off remainder of mask with warm water. Your skin will be nourished, glowing, soft and rejuvenated. Store any remaining mask in the refrigerator for up to a week - or freeze remainder to use within a month. You can also make a body scrub by mixing fresh pumpkin puree with brown sugar and a little almond oil. Apply all over your body in the shower and Happy Halloween!
